Android 14 will bring SMS sending via satellite to all smartphones

The big brands seem committed to bringing satellite communication to their smartphones. The first offers are still limited and used in special situations, but they are expected to evolve. Google seems to want to bring something new in Android 14, with the possibility of sending SMS via satellite on all smartphones

Apple and Huawei were pioneers when it comes to satellite communications. The American company brought to the iPhone the possibility of sending emergency messages on the iPhone, just like its competitor did, but with the sending of SMS via satellite on the Mate 50 and 50 Pro, and later on the P60.

Interestingly, Samsung ended up discarding this possibility for some time, as it was still limited. Thus, everything seems ready for Google to take on the role of disseminating this technology and this capability, using Android 14 for this.

Thus, and from what is being revealed, the next version of Google's system for smartphones will have something new. Inside, along with many other features, will be the ability to send SMS using the satellite network of any contracted operator.

Naturally, Android 14 alone will not have the ability to send these messages. Associated with the system and smartphone where it is running, it will be necessary to have the necessary hardware to connect to the satellite network.

Another important detail is that this capacity will not be limited and exclusive to the brand's Pixel, as Google has done in the past. From what is revealed, it will be accessible to the Pixel, but Samsung should also offer this capability on its smartphones.

If until now the capacity to connect to satellites, although limited, has already proved to be an asset, the truth is that its mass expansion will offer even more. It is expected that soon it will be possible to complement the operators' connections with these satellite services and thus have a completely complete coverage.
