Singer Celine Dion has just announced on her social networks and official website that the shows on the remaining dates in 2023 and 2024 of her European tour “Courage World Tour” are cancelled. The singer, who was recently diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that doesn't allow her to "sing the way I'm used to", had already announced the postponement of her performances.
The superstar has rigid person syndrome. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the condition is a rare, progressive disease that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord.
“It is with great disappointment that we announce today the cancellation of the ‘Courage World Tour’. I'm sorry for letting you all down yet again. I'm working hard to get my strength back, but touring can be really hard even when you're at 100%."
She went on to tell fans that canceling shows "breaks your heart". “It's not fair to you to keep postponing shows, and as much as it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I'm really ready to go back onstage again. I want everyone to know that I'm not giving up... and I can't wait to see you all again."
According to its team, tickets purchased for the 42 canceled dates will be refunded at the original point of sale — for further queries or options, ticket holders should contact the place where they purchased.
“As the world emerged from the pandemic, Celine continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at the moment is unable to prepare and successfully perform the remainder of the tour, which was scheduled to take place from August 26, 2023 in Amsterdam until October 4, 2023 in Helsinki; then continuing from March 6, 2024 in Prague to April 22, 2024 in London. We have every hope that soon Celine will be able to come to all these cities across Europe to perform for her incredible fans, but that time is simply not now.”
The Grammy winner completed the first 52 North American tour dates before the outbreak of covid-19 and interrupted it in March 2020. In early 2021, when the entertainment industry was still working under health restrictions, Celine filmed her first movie, “O Amor Mandou Mensagem”, co-starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan.
After that, the star was diagnosed with the syndrome, which causes severe and persistent muscle spasms, which prevented her from performing. Celine's medical team continues to assess and treat the condition.
