Netflix has confirmed: the fourth season of "Sex Education" will be the last. As the cast and fans alike braced for the blockbuster production to wrap up, Ncuti Gatwa, who plays the beloved character Eric Effiong, admitted that not all memories of filming are happy.

In a conversation with Rolling Stone UK magazine, Gatwa said saying goodbye to his character was a bittersweet experience as, on occasion, he faced challenges with the show's creative vision. According to the actor, he did not agree with all the actions taken in "Sex Education".

"It was really tough. It was a great show. When you're telling stories that haven't been seen before, there's always a battle about how to tell them. It wasn't always joyous. I feel like we got through that and gave it everything we can," the actor shared.

Ncuti Gatwa talks about improvised scenes being questioned for being black-oriented
It's not the first time Ncuti Gatwa has brought to light less than pleasurable details of her Sex Education experience. Recently, to Vogue, the actor expressed his dissatisfaction with some comments from a producer involved in the production.

"Some producers would approach me saying, 'This ad-lib of yours, I don't think white people will understand it. ' And I would say, 'It's not for white people to understand. There are too many white people on this show for white viewers to understand, but I want this other group of people to understand Eric. And you should want to too,'" he said.

Gatwa stated that the producers caved in to this argument, and most of his ad-libs ended up being incorporated into the series. "All of us were learning in real time on that job," he declared. The fourth and final season of "Sex Education" is scheduled to premiere on September 21, 2023.
